From the very broad-ranging field of construction chemical additives, Lohtragon® offers a group of metal salts that are used as hardening retarders and accelerators in cement and plaster-based systems. Typically, Portland cement containing binders, such as lime/cement plasters, require a hardening accelerator, to treat surfaces as quickly as possible after their application.
Selected Lohtragon® metal salts have been gathered in a Lohtragon® product selector for admixtures with various Lohtragon® accelerators and retarders allowing flexibility of the concrete setting time within a wide range.
Cements contain hexavalent Chromium (Chromate) compounds which are critical for health and safety reasons (e.g. toxic, carcinogenic). Impurities of chromium components in cements derive from natural impurities and during raw material processing. The formed hexavalent chromium (chromium (VI) compounds) need to be converted into less critical trivalent Chromium (Chrome(III) compounds) by adding the Lohtragon® Chromate reducing agents.
Case study:
Lohtragon® V01 is the answer: Highly efficient due to maximized Ferrous content and in liquid form (stabilized solution). It is easy to apply as dosage of liquid ingredients during cement production widely used. Dr. Paul Lohmann® holds the patent on this specific chromium reducing product.
The hardening time of non-retarded gypsum is just a few minutes, making careful processing almost impossible. Therefore, gypsum-based systems generally require retarders. For this purpose, the Lohtragon® range offers a selection of fine-grained products compatible with gypsum and adjusting the hardening time to the required level.
Calcium Sulfate Hemihydrate – settable gypsum – exits in crystal forms of alpha- and beta-hemihydrate. These gypsum types show different physical properties. Therefore, a selective production is required. Adding a crystal morphology modifier to the calcination process of the dihydrate gypsum improves this selectivity.
Case study:
The Lohtragon® B45 has proven track record in modifying the crystal habit forming the structure of alpha-hemihydrate gypsum which is very hard and used for molding plaster and special requirements.
